Blackjack Rentals
How to Play
Objective: The objective of blackjack is to beat the dealer’s hand without exceeding a total of 21.
Equipment:
- A standard deck or multiple decks of playing cards
- A blackjack table with designated betting areas
- Casino chips (if playing in a casino)
Basic Rules:
Card Values:
- Number cards (2 through 10) are worth their face value.
- Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) are each worth 10 points.
- Aces can be worth either 1 point or 11 points, depending on which value benefits the player more without exceeding 21.
Gameplay:
- Each player, including the dealer, is dealt two cards initially. Players’ cards are usually dealt face up, while one of the dealer’s cards is face up and the other face down (the “hole card”).
- Players take turns deciding whether to “hit” (receive another card) or “stand” (keep their current hand).
- The goal is to get as close to 21 as possible without exceeding it. If a player’s total exceeds 21, they “bust” and lose the hand.
- After all players have completed their hands, the dealer reveals their hole card.
- The dealer must hit until their hand reaches a total of 17 or higher. Once the dealer’s hand reaches 17 or higher, they must stand.
- If the dealer busts, all remaining players who did not bust win. If the dealer does not bust, the player with a higher total than the dealer without exceeding 21 wins.
Blackjack:
- If a player is dealt an Ace and a 10-value card (10, Jack, Queen, King) as their initial two cards, they have a “blackjack” or a “natural.”
- A blackjack typically pays out at 3:2 odds (meaning the player receives 1.5 times their original bet).
Insurance:
- If the dealer’s face-up card is an Ace, players have the option to take “insurance” against the dealer having a blackjack.
- Insurance is typically offered at 2:1 odds and allows players to make a side bet equal to half of their original bet.
Splitting and Doubling:
- Players have the option to “split” pairs of cards of the same rank (e.g., two 8s) into separate hands, each with its own additional bet.
- Players can also “double down” by doubling their original bet and receiving one additional card, usually limited to certain conditions (e.g., a total of 9, 10, or 11).
Dealer’s Turn:
- Once all players have completed their hands, the dealer reveals their face-down card.
- The dealer must follow specific rules for hitting and standing based on their hand’s total.
Payouts:
- Winning bets are paid out at even money, except for blackjack (paid at 3:2 odds) and insurance (paid at 2:1 odds if the dealer has blackjack).
These are the basic rules of blackjack. Variations and additional rules may apply depending on the specific casino or house rules. It’s recommended to familiarize yourself with the specific rules of the game at the table you’re playing before placing bets.
